VBCS 45/30/600 Triple HV CI - Combi charger - Combines three Devices in one

EURO 6 | Lead-acid,gel, AGM and Lithium batteries | 45A Charge booster | 30A Mains Charger | 600Wp MPPT Solar Charge Controller

The VBCS Triple 45/30/600 HV CI is a combi charger and the compact solution for motorhomes and expedition vehicles. Only one charging unit instead of the previous three different chargers. The device combines a charge booster for optimum charging of the batteries while travelling, a mains charger for charging the batteries via the 230V mains, as well as an MPPT controller for charging via solar power. The compact device helps to save valuable space in the motorhome. Purchase, installation and connection wiring are reduced to a minimum, so that valuable resources are also conserved.

Microprocessor-controlled charging of the leisure batteries with IU1oU2oU3 charging characteristic. 9 stored charging programmes for lead-acid, gel and AGM as well as state-of-the-art lithium LiFePO4 batteries ensure maintenance-free, fast and gentle full charging from any state of charge with subsequent full charge maintenance and battery care together with the supply of connected 12V consumers throughout the entire charging process. Energy drawn is immediately replenished.

Mains operation with the VBCS 45/30/600 Triple HV CI

When stationary at the external socket, the combi charger provides a reliable and powerful energy supply directly from the mains. Thanks to the universal wide input range from 110V AC to 230V AC, the full charging power is available worldwide – completely without manual switching and even with major deviations in the mains supply such as undervoltage or overvoltage, differing sine waveforms or fluctuating frequency.

Via the mains connection, the leisure battery is charged efficiently and the 12V consumers in the vehicle are reliably supplied. A switchable auxiliary charging branch with 13,2V or 12V at 4–5 A additionally provides support and maintenance charging for the vehicle starter battery – ideal during longer periods of inactivity, ensuring that the starter battery always remains ready for use.

Thanks to intelligent long-term charging characteristics, the device can remain permanently connected to the mains without damaging the battery. Whether during a longer period out of use or during the winter break – the device reliably keeps the batteries at an optimum state of charge, fully automatically and without any further intervention.

Charging converter, „B2B“ operation with the VBCS 45/30/600 Triple HV CI

The powerful charging converter (booster) enables the leisure battery to be fully charged while travelling.

The booster precisely adjusts the voltage to the required level in order to supply the leisure battery with the optimum charging characteristic – regardless of whether the applied voltage needs to be increased or reduced. Voltage fluctuations and line losses, which occur particularly in modern Euro 6 vehicles with their constantly changing alternator voltage, are fully compensated for.

The connected 12V consumers also benefit: They are actively protected against overvoltage and voltage fluctuations and always receive a stable supply. When used in a caravan, the input current can also be adjusted in two stages, in order to avoid overloading the trailer connector on the towing vehicle and to ensure safe operation.

Illustrative image MPPT worldwide

Solar operation, „MPPT“ with the VBCS 45/30/600 Triple HV CI:

Thanks to the integrated MPPT technology (Maximum-Power-Point-Tracking), the controller fully automatically determines the optimum operating point of the solar modules several times per second in order to always achieve the maximum power yield. The resulting increase in charging current of 10% to 30% ensures noticeably shorter charging times and the best possible utilisation of the available solar energy – at any time of year and under changing light conditions.

A switchable auxiliary charging branch additionally enables support charging and maintenance charging of the vehicle starter battery, which ensures that the starter battery always remains reliably ready for use, particularly during longer periods of inactivity.

In addition, the controller has a dedicated AES switching output which, when there is a permanently sufficient surplus of solar power, automatically switches compatible refrigerators with AES function (Automatic Energy Selector from Electrolux or Dometic) from gas to energy-efficient 12V operation – fully automatically and without manual intervention.

Further device features of the VBCS Triple HV CI :

  • The charging voltage is free from peaks and regulated in such a way that overcharging of the batteries is prevented.
  • Fully automatic continuous operation: The charger can remain permanently connected to the batteries and keeps them fully charged. If no charging source is available (mains failure, engine stop, night) the batteries are not discharged.
  • Parallel and buffer operation: With simultaneous consumption, the battery continues to be charged or maintained at full charge. The charger automatically calculates and monitors the adjustment of the charging times.
  • Unattended charging: Multiple protection against overload, overheating, overvoltage, short circuit, malfunction and battery reverse discharge through electronic regulation up to complete disconnection of charger and battery.
  • Power supply function: Enables the consumers to be supplied without a battery (e. g. when changing the battery).
  • Integrated on-board mains filter: Trouble-free parallel operation with additional charging sources (wind, engine and fuel generators) on one battery.
  • Charging cable compensation: Voltage losses on the charging cables are automatically compensated for.
  • Connection for battery temperature sensor (included):For lead-acid batteries (acid, gel, AGM), the charging voltage is automatically adjusted to the battery temperature, providing a better full charge of the weaker battery in cold conditions, while unnecessary battery gassing is avoided at summer temperatures.
LiFePO4 batteries: Battery protection at high and particularly at low temperatures < 0°C. Highly recommended if the battery temperature can fall below 0°C during operation.
  • Lead-acid battery regeneration automatically twice a week during periods of inactivity to prevent harmful acid stratification.
  • Charging aid for deeply discharged lead-acid batteries: Gentle pre-charging of the (lead-acid, -gel, -AGM) battery up to 8V, followed by powerful support of the battery if consumers are still switched on.

Options for the VBCS Triple HV CI

Remote control and display LCD-Charge Control S or LCD control board such as the Multi-Panel System 12V
When the device is installed in a location that is difficult to access, the control and operating element for all operating modes enables convenient remote monitoring and operation.
Function: It displays the status of the individual charging sources, the current charging phase, the voltage of the leisure and starter battery as well as the current charging current.
In solar operation, the displays for the current solar power (W) and, for your own statistical purposes, the energy counters (Wh and Ah, can be reset to zero at any time) are also available.
The AC Power Limit and AC Power Off functions can also be conveniently operated remotely at the touch of a button.

Changeover relay  for EBL (Schaudt)
When used in conjunction with an electrical block (e.g. Schaudt), installation of this changeover relay is mandatory. It prevents the charging current from flowing back from the VBCS Triple via the secondary battery into the starter battery. As soon as the engine is running and a D+ signal is present, it disconnects the connection between the starter battery and the electrical block. When the D+ signal disappears after the engine is switched off, the connection is automatically restored.

ByPass / cut-off relay 200A
ByPass relay that can additionally be used if there is a possibility that a very powerful consumer draws more current from the leisure battery than the charge booster can provide, e.g. operating a living area air conditioning system while travelling with a powerful inverter. A special switching output on the VBCS Triple activates the ByPass relay when the current consumption is too high and thereby bypasses the integrated charge booster. When the consumer current drops, the relay is switched off and the charging converter resumes controlled full charging of the leisure battery.

Bluetooth Connector S-BC
Connecting the Bluetooth Connector S-BC could not be easier. It is simply connected, using the modular cable supplied with the connector, to the "Display" connection of the  VBCS Triple HV CI. In this way, all information from the solar system can be conveniently viewed via the free APP on a mobile phone or tablet. In addition, the most important data is logged, graphically processed and stored for a longer period. Even output as a CSV file for your own analysis purposes is possible. Of course, the Bluetooth Connector S-BC can also be installed at any time later.
