The successor to the proven LCD Battery Computer S with 100A Smart-Shunt combines modern measurement technology with extended system integration. A significant new feature is the integrated CI-Bus interface. Particularly practical: With the LCD Energy Monitor CI, the 100A Smart-Shunt and the 25mm² ground strap, all essential components for the precise monitoring of battery- and energy flows are already included in the set. This means that the required components do not have to be assembled individually or purchased separately and are directly matched to each other.
The system continuously keeps the condition of the connected leisure battery in view and reliably records all charging- and discharging currents as well as even the smallest leakage currents. Based on battery size, self-discharge and current load, the Battery-Computer calculates the state of charge (SOC), the remaining available capacity and the expected remaining runtime. All important values are clearly displayed: the state of charge as a level bar in percent, the remaining capacity in Ah and percent, the remaining runtime in hours, the current charging- and discharging currents in amperes as well as the battery voltage in volts.
In addition to the leisure battery, a second battery can also be connected, for example the vehicle starter battery. This means you can keep not only the voltage of the leisure battery, but also the current voltage value of the second battery in view at all times.
Thanks to the CI-BUS integration, the system can be optimally integrated into compatible onboard electrical- and energy management systems and offers a future-proof solution for reliable energy monitoring.
In addition to its wide range of functions, the LCD Energy Monitor CI also impresses visually with a new, elegant black design and a bright, white illuminated display, which provides a clear and high-contrast display at all times – even in difficult lighting conditions.
The installation of the LCD Energy Monitor is particularly easy: The 100A Smart-Shunt CI (precision measuring resistor) included in the scope of delivery is installed directly on the negative terminal of the leisure battery and then connected to the display unit via a single cable. This means that the system is quickly and easily ready for operation.

Note: The Smart-Shunt and the respective ground strap included are matched to each other in terms of their current carrying capacity and therefore must not be combined with each other arbitrarily!

What can the LCD Energy Monitor CI do?
The LCD Energy Monitor CI combines battery- and solar monitoring as well as a Bluetooth interface in one device and thus enables the central monitoring of important energy data – ideal for motorhomes, emergency vehicles and other mobile applications.
In this set, it works together with the 100A Smart-Shunt CI to monitor the leisure battery. The nominal capacity of the connected leisure battery can be set in the LCD Energy Monitor CI within a range from 50 to 6500Ah. In addition, up to four compatible VOTRONIC solar-charge controllers can be connected, allowing the yields and operating values of the solar system to be displayed centrally in addition to the battery data.
Thanks to the integration into the VOTRONIC CI-Bus system, compatible components can communicate with each other. Existing installations can also be expanded or modernized via the modular interface.
What can the Smart-Shunt CI 100A do?
The Smart-Shunt CI records the charging- and discharging currents of the leisure battery and thus forms the basis for the calculation and display of the battery data on the LCD Energy Monitor CI. The 100A version is designed for a continuous current of 100A and can handle higher currents of up to 150A for 6 minutes or 200A for 3 minutes for short periods. In addition, the Smart-Shunt supports the voltage monitoring of a second battery, for example the starter battery.
For additional control tasks, a freely programmable switching output is available. When active, the battery voltage of 12V or 24V is present there. A main switch relay can optionally be connected to this connection. The output is protected against overload by an automatically resetting 0,3A fuse. A relay can be connected downstream for higher switching capacities.
What advantage does the CI-BUS offer me?
In more and more caravans and motorhomes, modern CI-BUS onboard management systems take over the central control of a wide range of devices and functions in the onboard network – a trend that reflects the continuing advance of digitalization in the leisure vehicle industry. Innovative solutions such as the wireless control of heating, air conditioning and other onboard devices via laptop, tablet or smartphone are therefore increasingly becoming part of everyday travel – providing greater comfort and improved energy efficiency alike.
With the integrated CI-Bus, the LCD Energy Monitor CI 100 integrates seamlessly into modern onboard management systems and is therefore ideally equipped for the connected onboard technology of today and tomorrow. Integration into a CI-BUS onboard management system is carried out via the 5-pole plug-in terminal strip and must be integrated accordingly into the onboard management system. This allows the relevant data to be displayed on a central vehicle display.
The CI-BUS was launched in 2011 under the leadership of the Caravaning Industrie Verband (CIVD) as a common industry standard of the caravaning industry. It is continuously being developed further and therefore forms an important basis for flexible, connected and convenient onboard management systems.
VOTRONIC VZE Control App - Battery, solar and system data at a glance
The free VOTRONIC VZE Control App is available in the Apple App Store as well as on Google Play and enables the display and evaluation of battery-, solar- and other system data on a smartphone or tablet. Depending on the connected VOTRONIC components, additional information such as tank levels, temperatures and fuse states can also be displayed and compatible chargers, charging boosters, inverters and switching outputs can be controlled.
In combination with the LCD Energy Monitor CI and a compatible measuring shunt, the battery data is the main focus:
- state of charge in %, available battery capacity in Ah as well as battery voltage
- current charging- and discharging currents as well as starter battery voltage
- graphical history display of the battery data over 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days
If compatible VOTRONIC solar-charge controllers are connected to the LCD Energy Monitor CI, solar data can also be displayed:
- current solar power, solar current and solar module voltage
- charged solar capacity in Ah as well as generated solar energy in Wh
- graphical history display of the solar data over 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days
The stored measurement values can also be exported as a CSV file and used for your own evaluation or documentation.
Space-saving mounting and easy installation
With an installation depth of 22mm, the LCD Energy Monitor CI requires only a small amount of space behind the mounting surface. A cutout of approx. 72 x 66mm is required for installation, the display unit itself measures 85 x 80 x 24mm. This makes integration easier, for example in control panels or other installation areas where the available space is limited.
The Smart-Shunt can also be installed close to the battery in a space-saving manner thanks to its compact dimensions of 135 x 32 x 44mm. The pluggable screw terminal is designed so that no wire end ferrules are required. The cables are connected with the screw terminal unplugged, the appropriate cable cross sections are based on the respective connection diagram. Fuses should be installed as close to the battery as possible to protect the cables.

Why is the battery monitored via a Smart-Shunt?
The battery voltage alone provides only limited information about how much energy is actually still available. The Smart-Shunt therefore records the incoming- and outgoing currents directly at the battery.
Both charging currents and the currents of the connected consumers are taken into account. Based on these measured values, the Energy Monitor can determine, among other things, the current state of charge, the remaining capacity and the expected remaining runtime.
This allows you to see at a glance whether your battery is being charged or discharged, how high the current flow is and how much battery capacity is still available.
Which shunt size is the right one?
This set is equipped with a 100A Smart-Shunt. The decisive factor for the selection is the maximum current that can flow through the battery connection being monitored.
For systems with higher charging- or discharging currents, versions with a 200A Smart-Shunt or 400A Smart-Shunt are available as alternatives.
When making your selection, particularly powerful consumers and components of the onboard electrical system should be taken into account, for example inverters or other consumers with high current consumption.
Important: The decisive factor is not the battery capacity in Ah, but the maximum current actually occurring in amperes.
Which battery types can I monitor with the LCD Energy Monitor CI?
The LCD Energy Monitor CI is suitable for 12V- and 24V-battery systems and can be used with Lead-, Gel-, AGM- and LiFePO4-batteries. The respective battery type is set accordingly so that the battery data can be reliably recorded and evaluated.
Can I also connect a second battery?
Yes. In addition to the leisure battery, a second battery, for example the vehicle starter battery, can be connected. This allows you to keep an eye on the current voltage of the second battery in addition to the voltage of the leisure battery.
Can I also display the measured values on a smartphone or tablet?
Yes. Via the integrated Bluetooth interface, the measured values can be displayed and saved on a smartphone or tablet using the free VOTRONIC VZE Control App.
Is the set suitable for retrofitting?
Yes. With the LCD Energy Monitor CI, the 100A Smart-Shunt and the 25mm² ground strap, the set already contains the essential, matched components for battery monitoring. The Smart-Shunt is installed on the negative terminal of the leisure battery and connected to the LCD Energy Monitor CI via a cable.
How many solar-charge controllers can I connect?
Up to four compatible VOTRONIC solar-charge controllers can be connected to the LCD Energy Monitor CI. This allows the yields and operating values of the solar system to be displayed in addition to the battery data.
What does the 100A specification on the Smart-Shunt mean?
The 100A specification indicates the current range for which the Smart-Shunt included in the set is designed. It records the charging- and discharging currents of the leisure battery and transmits them to the LCD Energy Monitor CI. For applications with higher currents, suitable sets with 200A- and 400A Smart-Shunt are also available from us.
Can I later replace the 100A Smart-Shunt in this set with a Smart-Shunt for higher currents?
In principle, a later conversion to a 200A- or 400A Smart-Shunt is possible. However, the ground strap must also match the respective shunt version in terms of its current carrying capacity. If the 100A version is not sufficient for your application, the set is also available from us as a 200A version with 35mm² ground strap as well as a 400A version with 75mm² ground strap.
