The number of electrical and electronic devices operating on 12V is constantly increasing – from navigation devices and radios to LED lighting, USB charging sockets and numerous other loads. As these devices are generally designed for 12V, 48V battery systems, which are increasingly being used in modern expedition vehicles and campers as well as in off-grid systems, require a reliable DC-DC converter that provides a stable 12V output voltage. With this voltage converter, 12V loads can also be operated easily from a 48V battery system – without having to purchase separate devices for different voltages. At the same time, a stable power supply protects sensitive devices from irreparable damage. Orion DC-DC converters have been developed specifically for this purpose and offer high efficiency as well as comprehensive safety features.
Connection is very simple: The 48V onboard voltage is connected to the input terminals of the Orion DC-DC converter, and a stable 12V DC voltage is immediately available at the output terminals.
The converter's fan is controlled according to temperature. The converter is also equipped with all common protection circuits. The cable connections are made conveniently and securely via the M6 studs. External contact terminals are also located on the front of the device for the optional connection of an external on/off switch.

The Orion 48/12-60 DC-DC converter as a battery float charger
The adjustable voltage output allows the output voltage to be individually adjusted (10V to 15V) via the potentiometer and therefore adapted to the float charge voltage of your 12V battery. This means that the unit can be used not only as a DC-DC converter, but also as a battery float charger – for example, for maintaining the charge of a 12V starter or auxiliary battery from a 48V onboard electrical system. Please note that this is a constant-voltage float charger; it is not a fully-fledged battery charger with a charging profile.
Note: Please adjust the output voltage of the Orion to the respective float charge voltage of your 12V battery.
What does parallel connection offer with the Orion 48/12-60 DC-DC converter?
Thanks to the option of connecting up to five units in parallel, the available output current can be significantly increased when required – ideal for applications where a single converter is not sufficient and more power is needed. This makes a total output current of up to 300A possible.
Remote on/off connection on the Orion 48/12-60
The optional on/off control via the remote on/off connection eliminates the need for a high-current switch in the input wiring. It can be controlled using a low-power switch or the engine's run/stop switch. For this purpose, the wire bridge on the green connector can be replaced by a switch; the switching current is less than 100mA. Alternatively, the wire bridge can be removed and the right-hand terminal of the green connector connected to the 48V supply via a switch.
