With the foldable 220Wp Lightweight Solar Panel, EcoFlow presents the successor to the foldable 220Wp bifacial solar module and the 220Wp bifacial solar module EcoFlow NextGen, and has integrated the XT60 connection cable. This portable solar panel combines high efficiency, flexible application options and ease of use in a compact design. What makes the bifacial design so special?

The integrated bifacial cell technology ensures a significantly higher energy yield than conventional solar modules. Whilst the front converts direct sunlight into electrical energy, the transparent rear also utilises reflected and diffuse light from the surroundings. Diffuse light is caused, for example, by clouds or particles in the atmosphere, which scatter sunlight and thus also reach the rear of the module. In this way, even light that would otherwise go unused by conventional solar modules is harnessed. Under optimal conditions, the 220Wp solar panel thus achieves an output of up to 243 watts.

Depending on the surface, the bifacial design enables a noticeable increase in yield compared with conventional, single-sided solar modules. The additional energy gain is particularly high on light-coloured or highly reflective surfaces such as gravel, sand, concrete or light-coloured roofing membranes, as these reflect more light onto the rear of the module.

Thanks to this technology, bifacial solar modules are suitable for a wide range of applications. The advantages of power generation on both sides are particularly evident with portable solar panels, as the panel can be flexibly positioned on a wide variety of surfaces. Solar fences, carports and ground-mounted solar installations also benefit from the additional energy generated via the rear side, provided that sufficient reflected light hits the module. This ensures that the available module surface area is utilised optimally and further increases the solar yield.


How can I achieve maximum energy yield with my 220Wp Lightweight solar panel?

The more perpendicular the sun’s rays are to the module’s surface, the higher the energy yield will be. The 220Wp Lightweight solar panel features an integrated, adjustable stand and a solar angle guide for this purpose. This allows the panel’s tilt angle to be adjusted in a matter of seconds and optimally aligned with the sun at any time.

The integrated solar angle guide also makes it easier to position the panel correctly. Align the solar panel so that the sun’s rays strike the module surface at as close to a 90° angle as possible. This ensures the available sunlight is utilised to the full and maximises solar yield from sunrise to sunset.

And all this in just three steps:

  1. Tilt your solar panel so that the sun shines through the transparent cover of the angle guide.
  2. As soon as the sun shines through the transparent layer, adjust the tilt of your solar panel until the shadow falls in the centre of the angle guide.
  3. Try to get as close as possible to the centre circle. The closer the angle of sunlight is to 90°, the greater the amount of sunlight received and the shorter the solar charging time.

 

As this is a bifacial module, you can further optimise your energy yield by choosing a highly reflective surface. This ensures that the maximum amount of light is absorbed from the rear side as well.


How robust is the 220Wp Lightweight Solar Panel?

Whether you want to use the panel by a lake, are caught in a rain shower, or wish to use it on your boat – with IP68 water protection, the panel can withstand even the harshest conditions. It is built to withstand wind, water and intense sunlight, whilst remaining reliably powerful.

Is the foldable 220Wp lightweight solar panel only suitable for power stations?

No! Not only are they suitable for directly charging power stations with an integrated solar charge controller, but they can also be used with a compatible solar charge controller, for example to charge the auxiliary battery.The Victron SmartSolar MPPT solar charge controller 100/20 with Bluetooth, which is compatible with this foldable module, is suitable for this purpose. This allows the solar panel to be flexibly integrated into existing 12- or 24-volt vehicle electrical systems and used independently of power stations.

In this way, the foldable solar module can be used flexibly and as a supplementary power source to charge the vehicle’s auxiliary battery, whether during longer periods of inactivity or breaks. As it can be set up quickly and easily, no permanent installation is required. You can park your vehicle in the shade whilst the solar bag is placed in the sun and freely oriented towards it, thanks to the connection cable. This allows you to make efficient use of solar energy even at high temperatures or where space is limited, and further optimise the charging output.


Is the foldable 220Wp lightweight solar panel only for travellers?

No! Don’t have a mains connection in your garden shed? No problem! With the right power station, you can still enjoy the convenience of 230V appliances just like at home. Two factors determine which devices you can run and for how long: the power station’s storage capacity (which indicates how much energy can be stored) and the power output of the built-in inverter (which determines which devices can be connected at all). A small 500Wh power station is suitable for LED lamps and charging laptops, whilst a 2000Wh power station can also power a small fridge, power tools or a coffee machine.

The possible uses extend far beyond the garden shed: when combined with a power station that has an integrated solar charge controller and inverter, entirely new areas of application open up. Photographers, for example, benefit during multi-day shoots at remote locations – camera batteries, drones and lighting equipment can be recharged on site using solar power, without having to rely on external power sources. The combination also proves invaluable for angling: fish finders, lighting and electronic aids remain reliably powered during fishing trips lasting several days – even in the most remote waters. Mobile traders at weekly markets and market stalls also benefit from this self-sufficient power supply.
