Solar bags: multifunctional power supply

Solar bags: Mobile power supply using solar energy

Solar bags are portable solar panels that can convert sunlight into electrical energy. They therefore offer a practical way of charging batteries to power electronic devices. They consist of special flexible solar cells that are attached to the surface of the solar bag. Thanks to their special design, they are multifunctional - even if you are not camping or traveling in a motorhome, you can use the solar bag on your next hiking trip or at a garden party.

The FraRon online shop offers high-quality solar bags with 90 to 400Wp from WATTSTUNDE®, EcoFlow, and Solar Swiss, allowing you to charge your devices on the go using solar energy.

3 Advantages – not just for campers

When you buy solar bags, you are choosing an environmentally friendly way to generate electricity. You also benefit from many advantages. The three most important ones are:

  1. Flexibility: Solar bags allow you to make optimal use of solar energy to charge your batteries and electronic devices. Unlike permanently mounted modules, the orientation and angle of the bag can be easily adjusted so that you always generate the best possible yield. Connection cables up to 10 m in length ensure maximum flexibility, allowing you to park your motorhome in the cool shade and place the solar bag in the sun.
  2. Mobility and independence: Campers and RV owners can use solar bags anytime, anywhere, eliminating the need to rely on shore power or other external sources. This increases mobility and independence outside the campground and while traveling.
  3. Versatility: Solar bags come in various sizes and designs, so they can be used for different purposes. Small models are suitable for taking on hikes, while larger ones allow you to easily secure part of the power supply in your motorhome when the weather is sunny.

In terms of price, solar bags are the most expensive option for solar modules for motorhomes. However, their enormous flexibility makes them an absolutely compelling choice.

Simply set it up and recharge your batteries

Installation is quick and easy, as you can set up the foldable structure in just a few simple steps and connect the cables to a solar charge controller. After use, the solar module can be folded back into a bag and stowed away in your motorhome.

Good to know: Dust and dirt can be removed from the modules of the solar bag first with a soft brush and then with a damp cloth.

How to use solar bags correctly

The performance of the solar bag depends heavily on its orientation and the amount of sunlight. Always place them facing the sun to achieve the highest yield. To make this possible, some solar bags have an integrated mounting system. Mounting devices are available for other models, providing additional stability. It is also possible to attach the solar bag directly to the motorhome or other smooth surfaces using special magnets or suction cups.

Required accessories

To complete the connection, you will also need a solar charge controller and a battery (which is usually already present in motorhomes, boats, or caravans) and, if necessary, an extension for the solar cables (to allow more flexibility when positioning the solar bag) in order to store the solar energy for later use.

Frequently asked questions about solar bags (FAQ)

How does a solar bag work?

A solar bag has solar cells on its surface to convert sunlight into electrical energy. This energy is stored in a battery via a solar charge controller and can then be used to power electrical devices.

How is a solar bag connected?

The solar bags come with a set of cables for connecting to the solar charge controller. On the output side, the solar charge controller must still be wired to the battery to be charged (a fuse should be integrated into the cable harness immediately before the battery).

Of course, we can also install a corresponding connection in your vehicle, to which the solar module can be easily connected as required. We permanently install the solar charge controller in the vehicle. Simply contact our workshop team and we will take care of it for you.

Who would benefit from a solar bag?

Buying a solar bag is worthwhile for people who spend a lot of time outdoors and want to harness the sun's energy, such as campers, boaters and outdoor adventurers. But remote buildings without a power supply can also benefit from the advantages of a solar bag.

When is a solar bag useful?

In general, it comes down to what you want. For flexible use, a folding bag definitely makes sense.

For example, if you want to spend the winter in Spain, a folding module is more efficient than modules laid flat on the motorhome, as you can position the folding bag perfectly to face the sun.

The disadvantages are that folding bags are not permanently attached and could therefore be stolen, and of course they require a certain amount of effort to set up and take dow

Does it make sense to place a foldable solar bag behind the windscreen?

To a certain extent, some heat does get in, but the thermal insulation glazing always reduces performance by a small percentage. Still, it's better than nothing.

I already have a solar power system. Do I need my own solar charge controller to use a folding module?

Yes, because otherwise they would have different voltages due to their different orientations
