EasySolar-II 48/4k5/55-32 MPPT 250/70 GX - 5-in-1 Solar Energy Hub

48V | 4k5VA (4,000W) inverter | 55A charger | 32A transfer switch | 250/70 MPPT | GX device | easy installation

With the Victron EasySolar-II 48/4k5/55-32 MPPT 250/70 GX, you get a compact all-in-one solution for using and storing solar energy. In a single enclosure, the device combines a 4,000W MultiPlus-II inverter, a 55A charger, a 32A mains transfer switch, a 250/70 SmartSolar MPPT solar charge controller and an integrated GX device for monitoring and controlling your system. As the individual components are already interconnected at the factory, you benefit from significantly reduced wiring requirements. This simplifies installation, saves space and can reduce the time required for installation.

The powerful bidirectional inverter performs several essential functions within your power supply system. It provides 230V AC power from the connected 48V battery, charges the battery with up to 55A when an AC power source is available and, with the help of the 32A transfer switch, ensures an uninterruptible AC power supply (UPS function). If the external power supply fails, the device automatically switches to inverter operation so that your connected loads continue to receive power.

The SmartSolar MPPT solar charge controller ensures efficient use of your connected solar panels. It uses the available solar energy to charge your battery as efficiently as possible . Its DC output is already internally connected to the DC connection of the MultiPlus-II. At the same time, the SmartSolar MPPT is also controlled via the on/off control of the MultiPlus-II.

The integrated GX device provides central communication and control of your system. Important information about the battery, inverter/charger and solar charge controller can be read directly from the integrated 2 × 16-character display. You can also access your system data via Wi-Fi using a smartphone or another Wi-Fi-enabled device and conveniently adjust system settings via the Wi-Fi connection.

For integrating additional components, a BMS-CAN interface for compatible CAN-bus-controlled batteries, a USB port, an Ethernet connection and a VE.Direct connection are available.

With the EasySolar-II GX, you get a versatile solution for 48V energy systems in stationary solar and energy storage installations, larger motorhomes, expedition vehicles and special-purpose vehicles, as well as boats and ships. The system can be used in both grid-connected and off-grid applications.

Uninterruptible AC power supply (UPS function)

In the event of a mains fault or an interruption to the shore power or generator supply, the inverter of the Multi is automatically activated and takes over the supply to the connected loads. Switching takes place so quickly (in less than 20 milliseconds) that uninterrupted operation of computers and other electronic devices is ensured.

Victron UPS illustration

Two AC outputs on the EasySolar-II 48/4k5/55-32 MPPT 250/70 GX

The main output ensures uninterrupted operation thanks to the UPS function. In the event of a mains failure or an interruption to the shore power or generator supply, the EasySolar-II takes over the supply to the loads connected to this output. This makes the EasySolar-II 48/4k5/55-32 MPPT 250/70 GX particularly suitable for backup power supply in industrial applications, telecommunications, security systems or for providing an uninterruptible power supply to medical devices, including in private settings.

The second output only supplies power when AC power is available at the EasySolar input. Loads that should not discharge the battery or should only operate when shore power is available, such as a kettle, can be connected to this output.

What is the purpose of the BMS-CAN connection on the EasySolar-II 48/4k5/55-32 MPPT 250/70 GX?

The BMS-CAN connection enables direct data communication between the EasySolar-II 48/4k5/55-32 MPPT 250/70 GX and compatible 500 kbps CAN-bus BMS batteries. Through this connection, important battery data and BMS instructions, such as state of charge, charging and discharging limits and error messages, can be transmitted to the GX system and taken into account when controlling the system.

Limitations:

  • The data rate of the BMS-CAN connection is fixed at 500 kbit/s and cannot be changed to 250 kbit/s.
  • VE.Can products, such as Victron MPPT solar charge controllers or a Lynx Shunt VE.Can, are not supported on this connection.

What charging options does the EasySolar-II 48/4k5/55-32 MPPT 250/70 GX offer?

The connected 48V battery can be charged using solar energy via the integrated SmartSolar MPPT 250/70 or through an AC power source connected to the AC input, such as the mains supply or a generator.

The MPPT solar charge controller is designed for a maximum PV power of 4,000W and provides a charging current of up to 70A. The integrated AC charger additionally provides a maximum charging current of up to 55A. Both chargers can operate simultaneously, allowing their charging currents to be added together. This results in a theoretical maximum total charging current of 125A.

Operating the EasySolar-II 48/4k5/55-32 MPPT 250/70 GX in three-phase or parallel systems

If you want to operate the EasySolar-II in parallel or in a three-phase system, all MultiPlus-II devices used must be of the same model. As only one GX device may be used per system, you will need the corresponding MultiPlus-II version without GX functionality for the additional devices.

Tip: If it is difficult to find identical devices suitable for your application in a parallel or three-phase system, an alternative is to combine several identical MultiPlus-II devices without GX functionality, such as the MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V, with a separate GX device, such as the Cerbo GX MK2 or the Ekrano GX. Please note: If you want to combine this solution with a solar installation, you will also need to integrate a suitable solar charge controller. Do you need assistance putting together the right system for your requirements or do you have any questions? We are happy to help!

Integrated display, Wi-Fi and remote monitoring

The EasySolar-II GX features an integrated LCD display (2 × 16 characters) as well as Wi-Fi and Ethernet. While the display shows important operating data directly on the device, you can conveniently monitor and configure the system via the network connection.

For remote monitoring via the free Victron Remote Management portal (VRM), the EasySolar-II GX requires an internet connection. This can be established via Wi-Fi or, preferably, via an Ethernet cable connected directly to the router. You can then monitor and control your energy system remotely from anywhere in the world. On a smartphone or tablet, access is conveniently provided via the Victron VRM app, while on a computer you can use the VRM portal.

In addition to data from the battery, inverter and solar charge controller, connected tank and temperature sensors can also be integrated and monitored. The VRM portal presents system data in clear graphs and enables detailed analysis to optimise your installation. You can also change supported system settings remotely and identify potential problems at an early stage.

Further information on setting up and using remote monitoring can be found in the manual in the download section.

PowerControl on the EasySolar-II 48/4k5/55-32 MPPT 250/70 GX

A maximum mains or generator current can be set. PowerControl then ensures that the configured maximum AC input current is never exceeded. For example, if 6A is set as the maximum AC input current, the Multi uses these 6A to charge the batteries. If an AC load requiring, for example, 2A is switched on, the Multi reduces the charging current so that the total does not exceed 6A, preventing the fuse at the AC input source from tripping. If the AC load requires 6A, charging is stopped completely. If the AC load consumes more than 6A, for example 10A, PowerAssist comes into operation. Charging is stopped completely, the 6A from shore power are used to supply the load and the Multi synchronously supplies the remaining 4A.

PowerAssist on the EasySolar-II 48/4k5/55-32 MPPT 250/70 GX

This function takes the PowerControl principle a step further, as the inverter/charger can support an alternative power source with insufficient capacity. Load peaks often occur only for a limited period of time. In such cases, the inverter/charger ensures that insufficient mains or generator power is immediately supplemented by energy from the battery. When the load is reduced, i.e. when consumers are switched off, the power that becomes available again can be used to charge the batteries.

Connection options and operating modes of the EasySolar-II GX

The Victron EasySolar-II GX can be used both grid-connected, with a connection to the public electricity grid, and independently of the grid in off-grid operation.

In off-grid operation, the EasySolar supplies the connected loads with energy from the solar installation and battery, independently of the public electricity grid.

In grid-connected operation, a distinction is made between two basic connection configurations: the grid-series topology and the grid-parallel topology. The following illustrations show both options for grid integration.

View of the EasySolar-II GX grid-series topology

Grid-series topology

The EasySolar-II GX uses surplus PV energy to charge the batteries or feed energy into the grid. It draws power from the batteries or uses the grid to compensate for a shortage of PV energy. In the event of a power failure, the EasySolar-II GX disconnects from the grid and continues to supply the loads.
Loads that should be switched off when no AC input is available can be connected to a second output (not shown). These loads are taken into account by the PowerControl and PowerAssist functions to limit the AC input current to a safe level.

View of the EasySolar-II GX grid-parallel topology

Grid-parallel topology

The EasySolar-II GX uses data from an external AC current sensor (sold separately) or electricity meter to optimise self-consumption and, if necessary, prevent power from being fed into the grid. In the event of a power failure, the EasySolar-II GX continues to supply essential loads.

Current sensor 100A: 50mA (optional) for EasySolar-II GX
