Victron MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V - a multifunctional device
48V | 4.5kW sine wave inverter | 55A battery charger | 32A mains switching | UPS function | parallel & three-phase operation
The new MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V is characterised by an improved power density, both in terms of weight and volume, and shows better behaviour at higher operating temperatures. Victron has also decided to change the power rating in the product name from volt-ampere (VA) to watt. For example, in the MultiPlus II 48/5000/70-50, the "5000" stands for 5000 volt-amperes (VA) of inverter power and corresponds to an active power of 4000W. For the MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V, the "4k5" stands for a cold start power of the inverter of 4,500W/2h. For a better overview, a comparison of several performance parameters of four different MultiPlus II is summarised below.
The basis of the MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V is an extremely powerful sine wave inverter in combination with a battery charger and a transfer switch in a common compact housing.
The MultiPlus-II is ideally suited for professional seafaring, yachts, vehicles and land-based, off-grid applications and for optimising self-consumption in home storage solutions.
Special features:
- Sine wave inverter, battery charger & grid switching in one device
- PowerControl - Optimisation of the power supply with limited alternating current
- PowerAssist - extended utilisation options for generator or shore connection
- Two alternating current outputs
- Automatic and uninterruptible switching (UPS)
- Parallel & three-phase operation
- Programmable relay
- Programmable analogue/digital input/output ports
- Remote configuration and monitoring
If the performance parameters of the new MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V are too low for your application, the new MultiPlus-II 48/6k5/100-50 is also available . You can find more combi appliances, whether for 12 volt, 24 volt or 48 volt systems, in our combi appliances category .

PowerControl for the MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V
The inverter/charger is able to provide a very high charging current. This places a heavy load on the AC power supply or the generator. For this reason, a maximum current can be set. The inverter/charger then takes into account the consumption already present and only uses the "excess" current to charge the battery.
PowerAssist with MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V
This function adds a new dimension to the PowerControl principle, as the inverter/charger can support an alternative source that is too weak. Load peaks often only occur for a limited period of time. In such a case, the inverter/charger ensures that insufficient grid or generator power is immediately compensated for by energy from the battery. If the load is reduced, i.e. loads are switched off, the available energy can then be used to charge the batteries again.
Two AC outputs on the MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V
The main output ensures uninterrupted operation thanks to the UPS function. In the event of a mains failure or an interruption in the shore/generator power, the MultiPlus-II takes over the supply to the consumers connected to it, making the MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V ideal for emergency power supply in industrial applications or in telecommunications.
The second output only supplies power when alternating current is available at the input of the MultiPlus-II. Consumers that must not discharge the battery, such as a water heater, can be connected to this output.
Uninterruptible alternating current (UPS function)
In the event of a mains fault or if the shore power or on-board generator is interrupted, the Multis inverter is automatically switched on and takes over the supply to the connected loads. The switchover happens so quickly (in less than 20 milliseconds) that uninterrupted operation of computers and other electronic devices is guaranteed.
Parallel & three-phase operation with the MultiPlus-II 48/4k5/55-32 230V - practicallyunlimited power
Up to six Multis can be connected in parallel for high power requirements. With six 48/4k5/55 units, for example, this results in 27kW output power with 330A charging capacity.
In addition to the parallel connection, three units of the same model can also be configured for a three-phase output. But that's not all: by connecting up to 6 sets of three units in parallel, you get 81kW inverter power and 990A charging current (18 units required).
ESS: Energy storage systems (home storage solutions)
The MultiPlus-II is a key component in an Victron ESS. It is very flexible and can be combined with an MPPT solar charger or a grid feed-in inverter for PV systems. Examples and further information can be found in the ESS (Energy Storage System) manual in the download area.
Solar power: Alternating current even in the event of a grid failure
The MultiPlus-II can be used for both off-grid and grid-connected PV systems as well as other alternative energy systems. It can be used with both solar charge controllers and grid-connected inverters.
Remote configuration and monitoring
In conjunction with a GX device (e.g. the Cerbo GX MK2 or the Ekrano GX), you can use the free VRM app and the free Victron VRM portal website to monitor and control your Multi and the system or systems locally (LAN) or remotely via the internet from anywhere in the world. Access can be via a phone, tablet, laptop or PC with a wide range of operating systems. Standard maritime, mobile or off-grid application
Loads that are to be switched off when no AC input is available can be connected to a second output (not shown). These loads are taken into account by the PowerControl and PowerAssist function to limit the AC input current to a safe value when AC power is available.
Topology parallel to the grid with MPPT solar charge controller
The MultiPlus-II uses data from the external AC sensor (to be ordered separately) or electricity meter to optimise self-consumption and, if necessary, to prevent electricity from being fed into the grid. In the event of a power failure, the MultiPlus-II continues to supply the necessary loads.
Current sensor 100A: 50mA (optional) for MultiPlus-II
For implementing the PowerControl and PowerAssist functions and for optimising self-consumption with external current measurement. Maximum current: 50mA or 100A.
