Modern smartphones, tablets and laptops increasingly rely on fast charging protocols that require significantly higher electrical power. Standard USB sockets in the vehicle are often unable to fulfil these requirements. The USB-C / USB-A charging socket with buck-boost converter from tigerexped was developed precisely for this purpose: it flexibly adjusts the voltage and current and thus enables fast, efficient charging of many devices - from smartphones and tablets to laptops, drone batteries, action cams and power banks. It is therefore ideal for use in caravans, campers, boats or expedition vehicles, among other things. Thanks to the option of connecting USB-A and USB-C cables, it also provides the necessary flexibility for using your devices.

What is the difference between the USB-C / USB-A Buck-Boost charging socket and a normal USB charging socket?

The main difference lies in the voltage adjustment and charging power:

In short: The Buck-Boost charging socket can convert the voltage bidirectionally (increase AND decrease) and therefore works optimally in both 12V and 24V systems, such as those commonly used in motorhomes, caravans, boats or even expedition vehicles. It enables modern fast-charging technologies with up to 20V output voltage - a normal USB socket can only reduce the voltage and delivers a maximum of 5V with significantly lower power.

Thanks to the buck-boost converter in the convertiger 100 , whether you use a 12V or 24V battery system, you can charge e.g. powerful laptops directly without an inverter and use fast charging protocols such as Quick Charge and PD3.0. This brings you several advantages: you avoid energy losses that occur when converting 12V or 24V direct current to 230V alternating current. The power consumption of the inverter in standby mode is also eliminated - saving your valuable battery capacity. You also save space, weight and purchase costs.

Automatic switch-off of the LED on the USB-C / USB-A Buck-Boost charging socket

The current charging voltage is visualised via an LED display, which is activated for 20 seconds immediately after the charging cable is plugged in. The display then switches off automatically. After a further 10 seconds, the backlight also switches off automatically. Thanks to this intelligent automatic switch-off function, the charging socket prevents annoying light at night that could disturb your sleep. At the same time, unnecessary power consumption is avoided - even if this is minimal, this function helps to conserve your battery capacity.

Note on the use and installation of the USB-C / USB-A Buck-Boost charging socket

Charging with 100W depends on factors such as the requirements of the device to be charged (note the current charge level), the cable used, the input voltage and the ambient temperature. Install the charger in a well-ventilated area, as the power is automatically reduced if the temperature is too high.

If the consumption of a device is permanently in the 100W range, the input voltage should be 24V. In a 12V system, you should favour operation via an inverter for this application.

The following manufacturer's guidelines apply to the cable thicknesses to be used for installation:

* The specified cable lengths correspond to the total length of the positive and negative cable (fuse box - charger - fuse box).

Attention: For USB-A, the QC 3.0 protocol currently defines charging modes up to max. 12V. Therefore, neither 15V nor 20V modes can currently be supported on USB-A. These voltages are only available via USB-C.
