MultiPlus II 48/5000/70-50 GX with display

5000VA Sine Wave Inverter + 70A IUoU Battery Charger + 50A Mains Priority Circuit + GX + WiFi

The complete function of the proven MultiPlus + ESS (Energy Storage System) for home storage solutions + GX Communication

As an inverter / charger with integrated device networking, MultiPlus-II GX communicates with a solar charger, batteries and other devices to control a grid-connected, off-grid or remote power installation. MultiPlus-II GX can be operated in parallel to increase power or battery charging and can also be configured for three-phase power. A variety of advanced features - such as uninterruptible power supply, setting load limits and supplementing limited availability of mains power with battery power - can be controlled directly from the smartphone. Remote monitoring is also possible.

It also offers all the features of MultiGrid with built-in anti-islanding and an ever-growing list of countries where it is approved.

Why GX?

With the GX version an Victron communication centre with additional interfaces / connections as well as a two-line display is already built into the MultiPlus II. This is sufficient in many cases, but of course there are also cases where an external communication unit (e.g. Victron Cerbo GX or Color Control GX) makes sense.

What interfaces does the integrated communication unit offer:

  • A BMS-Can interface (for communication with compatible lithium battery systems with Can-Bus-BMS Scnittstelle (e.g. Pylontech, Pytes etc.) Note that this is not a VE.Can compatible connector.
  • A USB port (e.g. to connect an Victron USB to VE.Direct communication cable, which provides another VE.Direct port).
  • One Ethernet port (to connect the MultiPlus to a network)
  • One VE.direct port (for Victron devices with VE.direct port, e.g. solar charger, battery monitor etc.)

The integrated display shows many status messages, yields and consumption as well as error codes. The display reads battery, inverter and solar charge controller parameters.
The same parameters can be accessed with a smartphone or other Wi-Fi enabled device. Detailed information on this can be found in the operating instructions.

The MultiPlus-II GX is intended for applications where additional connectivity to other products or remote monitoring is required, such as grid-tied or off-grid energy storage systems and certain mobile applications.

When do I need an external communication centre?

  • when a VE.Can interface is needed to connect an Victron device with VE.Can bus to it
  • when several VE.direct connections are needed
  • when inputs for external tank sensors and external temperature sensors are needed
  • if digital inputs are required
  • if additional potential-free switching contacts are required

In these cases we recommend to choose the MultiPlus II in the standard version (without additional GX) and to use e.g. the Victron Cerbo GC or the Color Control GX as external communication centre;

Notice: If several MultiPlus II units are connected in a parallel or series network, only one MultiPlus II unit may have an internal GX communication centre, the other MultiPlus II units must be in the standard version (without GX). Of course, the parallel or series network can also consist only of standard versions (without GX) and an external communication centre ( e.g. the Victron Cerbo GC or the Color Control GX) is used.

PowerControl and PowerAssist - Increase of mains or generator power

A maximum mains or generator current can be set. The MultiPlus-II then takes into account other connected AC consumers and only uses the current that is "left over" to charge the battery. This prevents the generator or the mains connection from being overloaded (PowerControl function).
The PowerAssist function adds a new dimension to the PowerControl principle. Load peaks often only occur for a limited period of time. In such a case, the MultiPlus-II immediately compensates for insufficient generator, shore power or mains power with energy from the battery. If the load is reduced, i.e. if consumers are switched off, the sufficient energy available can be used to charge the batteries.

Solar power: alternating current even during mains failure

The MultiPlus-II can be used with both non-grid-connected and grid-connected PV systems, as well as with other alternative energy systems. It can be used with solar charge controllers as well as with grid-connected inverters .

Two AC outputs

The main output ensures uninterrupted operation. In case of a mains failure or an interruption of the shore / generator power, the MultiPlus-II takes over the supply of the connected loads. Switching is so fast (in less than 20 milliseconds) that uninterrupted operation of computers and other electronic devices is guaranteed.
The second output provides power only when AC power is available at the input of the MultiPlus-II. Consumers that must not discharge the battery such as a water heater, can be connected to this output.

Virtually unlimited power through parallel and three-phase operation (not available for the 8k and 10k models).

Up to six Multis can be connected in parallel in case of high power demand. For example, this gives 24kW/30kVA output power with 420A charging capacity for six 48/5000/70 units.
Apart from the parallel connection, three units of the same model can also be configured for a three-phase output. But that's not all: by connecting up to 6 sets of three units in parallel, you get 72kW/90kVA inverter power and 1,260A charging current (18 units required).

On-site system configuration, monitoring and control

Settings can be changed within minutes using the VEConfigure software (requires a computer or laptop and MK3 USB interface).
Several monitoring and control options are available: Color Control GX, Venus GX, Octo GX, CANvu GX, laptop, computer, Bluetooth (with the optional VE.Bus Smart Dongle), battery monitor, digital multi control panel.

Remote configuration and monitoring

In conjunction with internal GX device (or Cerbo GX or Color Control GX), you can use the free VRM app and the free Victron VRM portal website, you can monitor and control your Multi and the system(s) locally (LAN) or remotely via the Internet from anywhere in the world. Access can be via a phone, tablet, laptop or PC running a wide range of operating systems. There is no end to the control options, from setting your multi to automatically starting a backup generator and more..."

Loads that are to be disconnected when no AC input is available can be connected to a second output (not shown) . These loads are taken into account by the PowerControl and PowerAssist functions to limit the AC input current to a safe value when AC power is available.   The MultiPlus-II uses data from the external AC sensor (to be ordered separately) or electricity meter to optimise self-consumption and, if necessary, prevent power injection into the grid. If a power failure occurs, the MultiPlus-II continues to supply the necessary loads.

Maximum current measuring range: 100 A   PV power is directly converted to AC power The MultiPlus-II uses excess PV power to charge the batteries or feed power back to the grid, and discharges the battery or uses power from the grid to supplement a shortage of PV power. If a power failure occurs, the MultiPlus-II disconnects from the grid and continues to supply the loads.

ESS: Energy Storage Systems (Home Storage Solutions)

The MultiPlus-II is a key component in an Victron ESS. It is very flexible and can be combined with an MPPT solar charger or a grid-feeding inverter for PV systems. Examples and further information can be found in the ESS (Energy Storage System) manual.

Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS function)

In the event of a mains failure or if the shore power or on-board generator is interrupted, the inverter of the Multi is automatically switched on and takes over the supply of the connected consumers. The switchover happens so quickly (in less than 20 milliseconds) that uninterrupted operation of computers and other electronic devices is guaranteed.
